Do you want to be a site engineer or MEP engineer?

The roles and responsibilities of MEP engineers are somewhat similar to those of site engineers as the term ‘MEP’ which stands for Mechanical Electrical & Plumbing but nowadays as per the norms and regularities fire safety is also taken under consideration an MEP engineer is modified to MEPF engineer which stands for (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing and Fire-Fighting)

The role of MEPF Engineer is concerned with the IBMS (Integrated Building Management System) or any infrastructural projects where there is the involvement of these subdomains, as per the hierarchy the MEPF engineer must be responsible to lead the engineers of subdomains like civil engineer who is assigned for managing plumbing, drainage, construction etc, the mechanical engineer who is assigned for HVAC (Heat Ventilation & Air Conditioning) or Fire safety system, the electrical engineer who is assigned for entire connections or ELVS (Extra-low voltage systems)

The goal of the MEPF engineer is to execute the project within the time limit with the best result and optimal cost, Now if we specifically take an example of fire-fighting or safety domain then the site engineer who is being assigned has to undergo the duties like system installation, to execute the system as per the drawing provided by the design department, to keep a note of all materials which are in use or are stored in an inventory also to make a note for forecasting needs of materials required at the site.

After the material order is placed by the procurement department the materials are sent to the site, where the concerned site engineer takes charge of the unloading and re-verifying the materials or goods along with the client-side representative. Apart from this the on-site duties like performing various calculations and measurements of the system and also handling the daily work progress of contractors whose workers are undergoing fabrication as per the norms decided by the client.
